On the Shoulders of Giants
It is a wonderful feature of human nature that one person learns from another, that one generation picks up from the last, that ideas generated three thousand years ago spark insights in current undergraduates. Like human culture, the disk at the top of this sculpture is supported, one-by-one by the disks below it. There is no sense in which one is more important than any other; all had to be there for the last one to exist, all of them shine together.
