Prague Spring
In 1968 I went to school with several students who had just escaped the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Red Army that ended the Prague Spring uprisings. Since then, their courage has been replicated all over eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. What I didnÂ’t know at the time was the beauty of the city from which they had fled. Dominated by a forest of spires, this ancient city has survived endless privations, to emerge gracefully in the freedom of the present. This sculpture aims to capture the beauty of those spires and the power of the citizens who would simply not acquiesce.
