Matrix
The tension in this piece stems from the perception that there is nothing visible that prevents the piece from sliding down the inclined plane. The nickel finish gives the matrix a light feel, but it is obviously heavy enough to slide on its support. In fact, mounting it on the support was a bit of a task, for the matrix did not want to sit still while it was fastened. The matrix has a nickel finish over solid bronze, and the support is black paint over poplar wood.
